wow, that was brutal. It was like Lars couldn't figure out the downbeat on the riff. Seems like the most basic thing a drummer ought to be able to do.

I know very little about Metallica, but I seem to recall reading in Dave Mustaine's autobiography that Lars was a rich kid who had a good drumset and all the toys, a place to practice, and very supportive parents and that was how he managed to find his way into the music scene as a teenager. it wasn't based on his music ability or prodigious talent.

As for an unpopular opinion, I'll throw out that Pink Floyd and the Doors are both terribly dull, uninteresting bands (though in different ways). How they've managed to become iconic is beyond me.
