If that's the case, I think Flames management will make sure this whole situation is strictly a win-win. They can manage his games such that he only plays 9 games between regular season and round one. (If we make the playoffs). If we make the second round I think the magic is in full-effect and you just roll with it. YES -> making the 2nd round for the first time since 2004 is well worth one-year for one player. Revenue-wise, experience-wise, fanbase-wise etc etc etc.

Yes. He can only play 9 games. Sitting in the press box does nothing.
The 9 games count towards both regular and playoff games.
