Burrows sees him, and sees him change course. Gaustad changes course and doesn't see Burrows. Burrows had a chance to brace, Gaustad did not. It's unfortunate incidental contact.

or he was stalking him on purpose because he knew Gaustad didn't know he was there. The play was already going up the other way and Burrows wasn't going for a line change because he kept going up the ice. His entire purpose of going over there was to run interference.
