Objectively, not disappointing at all. If you had told us in October that the Flames would be competing for anything other than the right to draft Connor McDavid at the end of March, no one would have believed it.

This year, we have seen Sean Monahan emerge as a 30 goal scorer as a 20 year old. Johnny Gaudreau is a Calder Trophy candidate, the first the Flames have had in a decade. TJ Brodie has solidified his status as a top pairing NHL defenseman, while Mark Giordano probably would have been a shoe-in for the Norris Trophy had he stayed healthy. Lance Bouma and Josh Jooris have been pleasant surprises. Poirier, Ferland, Bennett, Wotherspoon and Ortio all look ready to take the next step in 2015-16. The team as a whole has exceeded expectations from the start. None of this will change should the Flames miss the playoffs.

Subjectively, it would probably hurt more for the Flames to miss the playoffs this year, after all they've accomplished, than the past two years, where they were never really in the race.
