Dallas can still hypothetically finish with 96 points. The last wildcard spot belongs to Winnipeg with 90 points. However, Dallas has the tie-breaker. That means Dallas elimination number is 7. Which means that the number will be reduced by:
2- Winnipeg win or Dallas loss.
1-Winnipeg or Dallas OT loss.
Once the number reaches 0, Dallas is out of the playoffs.
The Flames play Winnipeg on the final regular season game, and they only need to gain one point on the Jets in the 6 games in between, for the game to be meaningful. If the Flames gain 5 points or more on the Jets during that time, they make the playoffs, and the game becomes insignificant. I have a feeling it's going to come down to the winner of the Flames-Jets match on April 11, that will decide who makes the playoffs.
