What REALLY sucks is that we will miss the playoffs by about 1-2 points. While we make fun of tank-nation....finishing in 9th is the worst thing that can happen.

No it's not - not if there were productive reasons for it.
This season provided immeasurable experience for all the young guys.
Monahan's progression has been phenomenal.
Gaudreau has become a top line player.
Brodie, Russell and Wideman all took their games to new levels.
Bouma is quickly becoming Bobby Nystrom.
Jooris, Granlund, Ferland, Shore, and Wolf have all benefitted from being around the team, the winning attitude, and the work ethic.
Every team has a 50-man roster. The problem with tanking is that you stop trying to improve your team. The Oilers and Sabers have AVOIDED improving their teams since before Christmas.
Any team that isn't improving is falling behind. And for teams like the Oilers, they spend 6 of every 12 months avoiding improvement.
That's why the Flames' rebuild has been faster (though it's far from over)
