Sure we've been in playoff races since then... but I know, personally anyway, I haven't been this emotionally invested in the team since our last postseason.

That is the feeling that we’ve been starved of for about 6 years now. The feeling where something is on the line where it actually means something. But more importantly, it’s the feeling of where this team is headed for in the future. There was a new dawn after the Iginla/Kipper years where a rebuild was in place. A new found patience had set in which accepted the old guard had moved on and it would take a few years of pain to move this team in the right direction. But now, the feeling is entrenched in new found excitement because even if we don’t make it this year there is a core of young players there now who are going to be the bedrock of this team for years to come. I’m talking Monahan, Gaudreau and Bennett; cornerstone players for a franchise who can make the difference between winning and losing. We may well have struck gold with all 3.
This years fight to get to the playoffs has been stressful, and will continue to be for the next 8 games. It will be emotionally draining if we don’t make it, but it also comes with an investment that the future is bright with the young players we have. Next season with Giordano, an even better Brodie, Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett and other key pieces we will be even better. Playoffs or not, it’s a good time to be a Flames fan.
