There are plenty of low IBU craft beers that are very good, and it doesn't come to craft beer being more bitter, sweet, malty etc.. It is the distinct taste, or non-taste more specifically, of the big North American lagers that turns me off of them. Basic European and Asian lagers are typically much better imo. There is no comparison imo between a Staropramen/San Miguel and Bud/Canadian. Once again though, a 6 of the former will likely be almost double the price around Calgary.
