He's got a pretty sweet gig right now. The season was done when Carlyle was fired, the ravenous media has turned on all the players, digging up whatever dirt they can.
Everyone, including himself, knows he won't be the head coach next year (Babcock or Todd McLellan), and he's auditioning, on a large stage, to be a top assistant somewhere else in hockey, with a lot less accountability to worry about right now.
He can do and say whatever he wants and be has honest and open because he's got the media, and Shanahan, on his side.
