"It’s more like a city against the world,” acknowledged Calgary Flames forward Joe Colborne. “It’s pretty special right now. There are a lot of people that are extremely excited about what’s going on here. You can feel it kind of building, I guess.

“Outside of this city, a lot of people just continue to think that we’re going to collapse anytime. It’s nice, though, that throughout this city and with our fans, that they have our backs and they’re supporting us.”

“When we scored that first goal, I said to myself, ‘Here we go again,’ ” recounted Flames head coach Bob Hartley after Tuesday’s practice session at the Saddledome, their first twirl on home ice in more than two weeks. “They were jumping in front of me. We had a hard time to keep them sitting down. It looked like a bunch of Timbits out there.”

“I went to the mall (Monday) and a couple of people said, ‘Congratulations,’ and obviously said that they’re excited about what’s coming up here,” said Flames sophomore centre Sean Monahan. “We want to do it for the fans that have been loyal to us throughout this whole process. We’re looking forward to doing that as a team.”

“It’s been awhile since the Flames have been in the playoffs, so I think everyone is pretty excited,” added Flames rookie sensation Johnny Gaudreau, who was also at the mall on his day-off.

“I saw a lot of Flames jerseys and signs and stuff like that. You can just tell when you walk into a store and you see a little Flames logo wherever, hanging from the ceiling or on the desk. It’s exciting to be a part of something like this.”
