Never mind numbers, Ortio simply "looked" like the best goalie we've had all season. The other two have had hot stretches where you still get nervous about positioning or rebounds or what-have-you but with Ortio there was a sense of calm we got. Even the Anaheim game, you couldn't actually fault Joni for the goals against.

Yeah, but goalies are sooo hard to judge. Of all the positions, you probably need the most games to truly analyze, and even then it can be a bit of a crap shoot. I think when we first got Brathwaite he won his first two games. The first of which was a huge shutout against a Dallas team at the height of their history, and the second might have been a shutout too. But he was never a top 15 goalie, and often, not even a number one.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Freddy, mostly because what we went through with goalies that year, but often goalies come up and are lights out, and then settle into what they truly are. The hardest part about being a goalie is consistency, a big part of which is confidence. That can get shattered so easily.
Seeing Ortio play well in a few games really wasn't that surprising to me. Freddy did it, Turek did it, Kipper did it. Kipper was the only one to be able to keep it going.
Would much rather ease Ortio in. That is both good for us, should he falter, and good for him, should he falter. He may very well be our best, with the highest ceiling. In that case, let's not screw it up.
Don't forget, before this year, he had some real bad ones too. He almost didn't make the dance.
