I really hope the Flames pick a defenseman in the first round this year. Now that the Flames have re-stocked their depth at center, it's time to shift the attention to the blueline ... I really like Wotherspoon and other guys have shown promise too (Culkin, Hickey), but it's still an area of weakness in our prospect pool and the upcoming draft would be a great opportunity to finally add a blue chip D prospect.
Given that the Flames are probably going to pick somewhere between 11 and 20 (after Giordanos injury, I think it's probably going to be closer to 11 than to 20 ... but who knows), at least one of Jeremy Roy and Brandon Carlo should be available. Both right-handed shots, would definitely fill an organizational need. Carlo is obviously a lot bigger (6'5 I believe), but Roy has better offense and seems to be the better puck mover. Carlo seems to a riser in most rankings, while Roy has fallen a bit. RW Brock Boeser could also be an interesting choice. Right handed shot, decent size, natural goal scorer. Timo Meier as well ... left-handed shot unfortunately, but fits everything else that the Flames could use.
Either way, a lot of intriguing prospects available in the first two rounds. Two forwards and two defensemen in the first two rounds and I think the Flames take another huge step forward in their rebuilding efforts. This really looks like a great draft to have a lot of picks.
