Guys that big often take a while to grow into their bodies and get co-ordinated. Skating is tough in that regard.
Smith has some skill - more than some of you seem to think. If he can continue to develop, with that 6'7" frame, he could be a homerun pick.
If he becomes a 4th liner, that's a very good pick. Any NHL player is a good pick in the 2nd round. If he becomes anything more than that - say a 2nd or 3rd liner, that's a homerun.
I for one, am very excited about his prospects. I am a little disappointed that his production didn't jump a bit more this year, but that could just as easily be about how he is being utilized as it is about his progression.
We will see him at camp again in the summer - looking forward to seeing how his skating is coming along.
