I get that Baertschi is an emotion packed player from a Flames fan's standpoint. Nothing harder than watching a top prospect erode or at least slow in his path to the NHL. His start was amazing.
Looking back at the summer prospect poll I see Baertschi getting 7 votes in the first round, ahead of Gaudreau and Bennett.
With Gaudreau off the list 25 people had him ahead of Bennett.
He won the third round in a land slide
So I get it, people loved his game and were hopeful he was going to be a stud in Calgary. I didn't vote for Baertschi in the summer, never had a chance. And I wasn't in the "Hartley not giving him a chance", "free Sven" crowd. I saw a guy with talent but not the maturity to grasp the moment, though he improved his attitude greatly this season.
Wish him well, but I'm so glad this waiver thing isn't an issue that will hang over camp. Can't see him in the team's top six this fall if he was here, and I'm guessing the only reason he will be in Vancouver's is to avoid looking like they messed up in this trade.
The results from the poll on the trade tells me 75% of the site is pretty good with it.
