The players moved went for too much for a bubble team like Calgary - we are ahead of pace on the rebuild, but that is no reason to dump assets prematurely.
Wisniewski has a partial NTC, so he could only move to certain teams. Likely, the Flames were not one, otherwise a deal for him around Baertschi + 2nd would have been possible.
Petry went cheaper than other D, but there is no way he goes for that price to the Flames, as has already been mentioned.
When you consider selling, the Flames assets, beyond the two guys who were moved, are all under contract or team control (RFAs who WANT to stay) for at least another season. There was no NEED to sell, only if the right deal presented, and my guess is that did not happen.

So Treliving moved two guys who will not be a part of the team next year, and reinforces the depth on D without spending. Sure, the team has a big drop off losing Giordano, but the closest guys to replacing his minutes went for a king's ransom, and only a team peaking should be spending that much.

For me, it was a case of making the best of a bad hand. Didn't win, but kept enough chips to be able to play the next hands, which hopefully come up better for the Flames.

Next will be the draft, with a bunch of picks and potential for trades, then training camp and cuts and so on. Make a push for the playoffs now, and worst case, the team finishes better than anyone predicted.
