I am happy that they stood pat and accumulated picks.
Yes the team has been incredible this year and thus deserved support. However, with Giordano down, and with the asinine price of good defensive assets, it would have been beyond foolish to chase that rainbow.
And in the end, would adding a guy like Wiz or Coburn make any real difference to their chances this year? I highly doubt it.
But more than that, I keep coming back to the idea that the best thing for this team is to make their run at the playoffs - successful or not - with their own players and their own prospects. Send them out there and see what they can do!
In all likelihood, they won't make the playoffs. But that wouldn't have changed if they had paid a king's ransom and got another defenseman.
But they still might find a way. And whether they do or they don't this will have been a massively successful season. The benefit to the development of the young players is undeniable is not diminished by having Treliving stand pat.
I am happy with the picks. And I am happy that they didn't overspend to try to improve. Patience was the best course of action.
Now, let's give the kids a chance to shine!
Oh, one more thing... I have a really good feeling about Schlemko (no idea why, just do).
