We'll never know...if Gio's news wasn't so dire, I'd be overall disappointed that Treliving didn't do enough to give the roster a skill/mental boost to make a refreshed push to gain a couple points on the teams above them.
But, as is with Gio's devastating injury, playoffs are a lot longer of a long shot, and you can't replace those offensive instincts that Gio had and displayed this year.
So in the end, decent value for Glencross (and good for him to waive, I don't think Washington was ever on his list). Nice to get Schlemko for no assets, and the great return for a guy who the coach didn't like and who was very unlikely to play any more of a role here then he has the last 3 years, in Sven.
With the rumors that Treliving was looking for contracts to take over (I heard rumors about Pronger from PHI) and an asset to take that on, I think he didn't leave much unturned.
With cap space, an exciting team this year, along with a repaired organizational reputation, I think the Flames can be bigger players in the UFA market. Also, with a lot of draft picks, they can acquire players that way as well.
