I hope it was a case of him getting bad advice from his agent or something. Seemed like a good kid otherwise. Best of luck to him, but I never was that high on his style of play.

I don't find it arrogant at all... in any other industry, LOTS of people do it. In fact, thats the time that matters the most, cause thats your early career development time. Many examples of this, the most obvious one is Kyle Turris.
