I recall at the beginning of the season when he was sent down, made some pouty comments and then complained to the Swiss media through his father. A lot of people tried to give him the benefit of the doubt saying that English wasn't his first language and that he wasn't used to media. Now we at least know he was sincere.

This is not true.
He made an effort to explicitly deny the comments made by his father.
He could have very well told his dad that he was unhappy, but his intent was never to complain through the media. He should not be blamed for his father's mistakes.
