I'm not sour about Tanguay in the slightest. I think he was good in his time here and wish him well. But I do think he could have been a much better, more well rounded player if he would attack the net more often rather than always looking to pass. He has the skill set to be a Patrick Kane (.967 ppg), but doesn't use all of it
I see no reason to be content with the possibility to Gaudreau limiting his game to one dimension just because other players have had some success doing that.
