IMO giving up assets to acquire rental players when you feel you are on the verge of winning the cup can be viewed as smart management as windows can close fast. IMO giving up assets to acquire rental players when you are a surprise young team currently looking at the playoffs from the outside in a close race is poor asset management. Lets hope Flames management are being realistic about where the organization is today and where it needs to be in the future. I will say that sometimes I worry that ownership is fixated on the playoff game revenue (as has been in the past) although there's been no evidence that they would interfere with the team operations.
