That's interesting - I wasn't even thinking about it analytically; I just meant in terms of a motivational tool, which it seems to me is usually why coaches use this meme. Try to get the guys to win every series. Which makes more sense if you don't use the 7 gamer - "we're 1-4 this time out, so we've already lost this series, but let's see if we can win a couple to only lose by one" doesn't seem like it would get guys motivated.
I would think that splitting a larger data set into seven game segments wouldn't do much besides demonstrate that any given 7 game segment is too short to tell you much of use. But I could be wrong.
