Colborne and Shore are different situations. They were prospects that were on the cusp of breaking in but the team they were with had no room. In that case it makes sense for the team to trade for a younger player in the same positions (see Clendening for Forsling), trade for a draft pick (Colborne) or trade for a young player to potentially fill a different positional need (see Shore for Knight - I'm assuming Fla thinks Knight could be a good 3/4 face-off guy even with their current depth at C).
I agree with you though - I'd prefer if the Flames got a young player in a position where we are lacking depth to a pick as well.
