I know part of being a fan is feeling connected to the team. But I also hope most fans recognize that's just a feeling they give themselves, and not an actual thing. These guys are professional athletes. Nothing we say or feel has any tangible effect on their game or on their careers.
If the time comes when it's smart for the franchise to move Gio or Monahan I'll cheerfully support such a move. I must have seen over 300 players wear the Flames jersey by now. Players come and go. What matters is the jersey and winning.

Maybe we can't run players out of town, but I can clearly impact the score of the game by watching or not watching. They'll go long stretches not scoring with me watching, and so I decide to turn the TV off because obviously I'm shooting bad luck through the TV to the team. When they then score, this is not coincidence.
