Kuwait was selling oil under the table at cheaper prices than everyone else, which was weakening Iraq's economy. Hell, even Bush senior wanted the price of oil higher than it was, but because of Kuwait's actions the price was driven down a bit. However, Saddam also claimed Iraq had historically included Kuwait as part of the country as well, but that was false I believe.

Oh and Kuwait supported terrorism and had heaps of WMD's they were going to attack Iraq with ...
