Anyone who thinks a third-line winger (which is what Glencross would be on any contending team) who is a pending UFA would bring back a 1st round pick hasn't been following NHL transactions very closely the last few years.
If you can get a 2nd you make the deal.
Put it this way - if the Flames didn't have Glencross right now, and he was available from another team, would you deal the Flames' 2nd round pick for him at the deadline as a rental? I would hope not. Because if that's the case, the Flames have pretty much moved on from rebuild mode and are prematurely entering win now mode (refer to Ottawa to see how that story plays out).
