I feel like officers need to learn that in general, fragile old men aren't a major threat, unless acting in a threatening way.

This happened in Seattle a few weeks ago:

Black man is waiting to cross a street with a small bag of groceries in one hand, using a golf club as a walking stick with the other. A female officer loses her mind and tells him to put his "weapon" down.

In some cases, excessive force can be somewhat explained away, but this man was in no way a threat, not even close. Officers really need to be properly trained so they don't completely overreact to non-threats. Maybe then people wouldn't react in such a volatile way when police approach them.
