I can't speak for this guy's motivation.
However, my view is that the US is demonstrating a worrying trend that is worth keeping in perspective. For example, in February alone:
1) A state legislator has asked muslim Americans to pledge allegiance to the flag
2) A mosque was burned, likely arson
3) Muslim Americans were killed in cold blood, ostensibly over a parking lot dispute
I don't think it's too much to consider that if the coincidental targets of these acts were gay men and women, or people of the Jewish faith, or Buddhists or <insert minority here>, we'd be mindful of the trend.
