This is "obvious" only if you believe that one of Monahan or Bennett are of equal value to the prospects that Winnipeg received in return from Buffalo. I expect that virtually everyone will disagree with that assertion. Clearly, the asking price was too high for Treliving, but that is also possibly a product of Winnipeg not wanting to trade Kane to a potential playoff rival.
