Well, I don't get downtown much, but here are a few off-the-beaten-track places, along the Sarcee Trail corridor:
Misato Japanese Restaurant 1851 Sirocco Drive SW. (Near 17th and Sarcee.) My current favourite, this restaurant was a very pleasant surprise as the food is pretty good and it is close to where I live.
Japanese restaurant at 37th Street and 46 Ave SW. Anyone know the name of this place? I have only been there once, but I recall that what I ate was tasty and reasonably priced.
Richmond Sushi. By Canadian Tire, on Richmond Road near Sarcee. They have a little train that drives the sushi around the bar. Quality seems OK, but sometimes the rolls are sloppily assembled. Pricy, considering the above. Haven't been back since I spent $20 on lunch because I wasn't paying attention to the dish colours. Can be a good place to take young kids though, as the sushi bar provides a "no waiting" eating experience, the train is fun, and they almost always have chicken strips on it. (Don't let the kids serve themselves, we watched someone's child derail the train once.)
Sushi Ichiban at 37th and Bow. Didn't like it the last time I was there, won't return.
