City has long planned to acquire all the property here. Question will be whether the economics pencil out. Major environmental remediation and infrastructure will cost in the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS to prepare the land for redevelopment. Assuming that's CRL debt to finance, it will take a lot of high density development to be able to pay back that debt. Add a sports facility (which presumably will demand additional CRL money to finance its construction) and that takes away a lot of land to redevelop for other uses that contribute tax revenue, making the pro forma even more challenging. Might make more sense if you could get the Province to gift the portion to cover environmental remediation, but that doesn't seem likely, at least not for several years. I guess I have no problem stating this since my comments to this effect were quoted in the paper after the FOIP of Mayor's Office emails on the topic...

If this is a site they're pursuing, at very least I hope it's not the only one they're serious about looking at.
