The only explanation is they are going to go after a UFA goalie in the off-season, or trade for a young promising goalie that is stuck behind others on the depth chart. Problem is, I can't think of any that fit the latter category, so here's their options for a starter to begin next year...IF they can sign him.
Antti Niemi
Karri Ramo
Victor Fasth
Ilya Bryzgalov
Michael Neuvirth (currently on their team)
Jonas Gustavsson
Thomas Greiss
Ray Emery
Oh...and Jhonas Enroth.
Niemi is the only viable starter or upgrade on Enroth, and it's not even certain that he will make it to free agency. I just don't get this move from an organizational standpoint. They just got rid of Miller last year too. The earlier trade was shrewd. This is just baffling.

Perhaps contract negotiations (if they occurred) with Enroth wasn't going well, and they decided to trade him rather than let him go for nothing? Just brainstorming here
