Fleury was never the most offensively talented player in the league. NEVER. When Fleury was having his big year in 1990-91 there was this guy named Gretzky, still in his prime. When Fleury was having his last big year in 1995-96, there was this guy in Pittsburgh named Lemieux who was ripping the NHL a new one. He also had this kid on his wing by the name of Jagr who was doing pretty well in his own right. Fleury was a good player, but there were plenty of more skilled and successful players in the NHL each year.

I think it's kind of cool to see the current team coming together and there being some parallels between the '89 champs. I hope this team finds similar success in the near term and greater success in the long term.
I give you Mario when he was healthy - but I'm talking talent, not successfully applied talent. Gretzky was never the most talented guy - just the best player (people always said , for example, that Nilsson was more talented). And I think Gretzky was behind Fleury by 1996. And in late 90s I thought for various stretches he was better than anyone else, talent wise.

Anyway, thread hijack, and it doesn't change that I thought Fleury was an elite prospect just like Gaudreau was, despite the late pick and ranking.
