In a way, they did. That whole hospital arc was pretty much just leading to Beth's death. Even worse is that they introduced a whole whack of people that we had no emotional attachment to, have them kill Beth, and then never see them again (excl. Noah)?

So instead of one episode with Tyrese, you got like 3 or 4, and it wasn't very good hahah. Give me this one interesting episode over those 3 or 4 meh episodes any day!

It was such a weak death though. Like come on, he survives 2 years in a ZA only to have a 10 year old child zombie 'ninja sneak' up on him when he knew he was there already. And then the other zombie magically appeared to finish him off. Tyrese deserved better even though he was basically as useful to the group as Beth was (a liability for the most part). It reminded me of Dale's death in season 2, just tacked on for convenience. One zombie or even two should not be a threat to people that have survived as long as they have. They are lumbering, stupid, slow and loud (well except when they activate ninja mode).

Hardly a major turn when a weak supporting character dies either. Yeah, Herschel, the Governor, Lori, those were major deaths that had long lasting impacts. Tyrese? Meh. He was an awesome character in the comics, but basically weak and useless in the show. The only person I see as being impacted by this is Sasha, another peripheral character. They also didn't really give him much back story until this episode (which was a pretty big hint that he was done for).

I also loved slicing his arm off. Yeah, that will help stop the infection, we should cut his arm off with a sword that is used to hack zombies up

Michonne was also written to be extremely out of character and irrational. The Michonne we've known so far is a warrior who knows you can never stay in one place too long. Why is she getting so upset about the rest of the group not wanting to set up camp in a walker den. She starting to crack? Doesn't suit her stoic personality. Unless they're about to change her into that, which if they are, I'm not too cracked on that decision.

Basically nothing happened for 45 minutes last night. Tyrese died, that's it, it hardly advances the plot. It's the zombie apocalypse, people are supposed to die. Honestly, Tyrese and Beth were pretty much red shirts. They're going to have to kill off someone who's actually important here soon. The last major death was Herschel.
