As far as the alleged injury, I believe he was leaving towards the timing, saying he isn't fooling anyone.
It has been known for some time that he had an injury eventually requiring surgery. Suddenly after track suit gate, when he fell out with his teammates, either :
A) Medical diagnosis changed and surgery became immediately necessary, despite no game action in the interim, or
B) he perhaps realized his time was done there, quit on the team and chose his out
It is pretty darn easy to lean towards B)
So I don't think Cherry was calling out the validity of the injury, more the decision on timing of surgery.
