The one thing we can be reasonably sure of is that Bennett won't go straight into NHL action off of the IR. He might go straight back to junior, but for now, I doubt it. It seems most probable to me that the Flames will send him to Adirondack for at least a couple of games before making a final decision. It's all very well to say that he is practising with NHLers, but scrimmaging with teammates is one thing; playing against opponents in real league games is another.
It all comes down to having enough information. How Bennett performs in a game situation is vital information to have, and the only way to get that before making the decision is to give him a conditioning stint in the AHL. Basically, he's going through a one-man training camp in mid-season, and I imagine he'll be playing his exhibition games down there.
