As a bottom 6 guy, I look to them to occasionally chip in offensively, be solid defensively and generate momentum for the team. Offense? Very little to no results. Being solid defensively? I think it's a fair point that while Byron is relied on in our PK, since the PK itself hasn't been great, that's not exactly a shining point. However being solid defensively doesn't necessarily equate only to solid PK or being good in their own zone.
If Byron is able to continually generate chances, spend most of his shifts in the offensive zone then that's a huge win by itself in terms of defense. That also adds to the momentum moving in the team's favor and that's a part that I feel like Byron has done generally well with. Somebody will have to dig up the actual stats on whether my 'feelings' are accurate.
That all being said, it's hard not to ask Byron for more because if we want to be a contending team then all the players need to be better as a whole. Do I want Byron as a 3rd/4th liner in a playoff series? Probably not. Not until he shows me that he should be and can regularly be.
