Although this post may get some flak the number 1 reason why the Flames need a new arena is from a revenue generation standpoint for both Flames and non Flames events. Items like long waits for washrooms, concession food etc can be looked at with a renovation of the existing dome to SOME degree. Not all the items can be fixed with an older building.

1) With a site off the Stampede grounds and with ample parking the Flames can expect to generate $100+k a game in parking revenue. Factor other events and the parking business can become a huge money source.

2) With an arena off the grounds and more of a local area the Flames will also be able to have the new arena more of a gathering place before, after and on non event games. If anyone has ever been to Real Sports Bar in Toronto knows that place is packed every single day. That specific bar may generate $15 million a year or more in actual sales and is a mecca for the Toronto entertainment scene.

3) Obviously a new arena will be more efficient in terms of energy uses and has the capacity to be more flexible for non hockey events such as concerts etc. This also helps with revenue generation.

4) If the Flames build a new arena and have a "community" style arena next door they Flames could manage it and get any added revenue from smaller events. Say the Flames build a mini- hockey arena like we have at Winsport, Seats 3000, with some concessions, gym facilities, etc. The Flames could use this as a practice rink if need be, sell ice time to local hockey teams and also rent out the facility's to concerts, trade shows, hockey tournaments etc. A LOT of concerts and events that go to places like Jack Singer, Jubilee, local casinos, Maxbell arena etc could go there. That's a lot of rental revenue, concession revenue and parking revenue. The Flames only need a practice arena for a few hours a day at best. They are not going to need a $30 million dollar practice rink for game day skates or a 90 minute practice a few times a week.

Just my $0.02. Sorry about the long post.
