Manfred Wolf isn’t too proud to admit seeing his son on a National Hockey League sheet of ice for the first time on a regular-season NHL game night moistened the tear ducts.

“Yeah,’’ he says, “you aren’t human if you don’t tear up, just a little.’’

And that was only for warm-up.

Imagine the flood of emotions when David Wolf actually finds himself in a game

“Am I proud? Obviously, that’s a no-brainer. That’s the best league in the world. He’s worked awfully hard to get this opportunity. I told him the other day when he was set up from Adirondack ‘You know, David, whether you play or don’t play, it doesn’t really matter to me because you’ve gotten to where you are on your work ethic and your desire to improve.’

“That’s what makes you proud as a dad. That’s worth a lot to me.

“I don’t know if he’ll even get to play on this call-up. We’ll see. But that won’t stop him. He’s a pretty determined young man.

“The Flames organization, the coaches, management, the people in Adirondack, have all shown a lot of faith in him. And when he does get his chance — whenever that might be — I know he won’t let them down.’’
