Could be a little crazy but could it be Smid's injury that caused the deal to break down late.
I don't think the Kings want Stajan, part of moving Richards is because they want to open a spot for Shore.
They might be more interested in Smid, shorter term left and d is a bigger need.
Personally I would rather the Flames keep Stajan and not move him for a cap dump. With his low salary he might start to have value, especially if we ate another million.
Also if fitness appears to be an issue it would be interesting to see what our team trainer thinks of Richards, considering he was in L.A. prior to Calgary. Might be a little inside knowledge if he thinks he could turn around Richards habits.
