That leaves us with plenty of capable LW, C, and RW.

Look at that, no need for Mike Richards, plenty of guys who can fill in at RW. Hell, that lineup still doesn't leave room for prospects like Klimchuk, Shore, Granlund, and Reinhart who have all shown very positive signs.
Eventually near the end of his contract, Stajan's super-easy to move to clear space with a mere 3.125m cap hit, a character guy who wins faceoffs, PK, is a fantastic passer, and has never made it so that a team feels it necessary to get rid of him (first Philly, now, LA) hell we've signed him to two extensions since acquiring him - he must be doing something right.
If you can get a sure-fire deal on a legitimate Top Line RWer like Corey Perry, sure you make some moves. Mike Richards is en route to the AHL.
If there is a prevailing opinion that the rebuild is over, then there is no reason to continue accruing draft picks and prospects. In this situation, we shouldn't pick up Richards. This scenario counts on everything going 'right' though. Which would be awesome if it does.
