Those are some male names I'm throwing out there. I think my point is female celebrities are judged more harshly than male figures. McCarthy often comes from the same place as Farley and Belushi - the loud, oafish buffoon.
Just mention Wiig and McCarthy, and people lose their ####. I suppose you see that kind of reaction to Will Ferrell too, but women seem to be under the microscope far more. Musicians, comediennes, actresses, sportscasters.
Some people (including Belushi) actually hold the view that women can't be funny at all.

it could be that in some way men do not want women to be funny. They want them as an audience, not as rivals. And there is a huge, brimming reservoir of male unease, which it would be too easy for women to exploit.
