In 2000 he hit 31 HR, in 2001 he hit 34 HR. He actually had a pretty good reputation as a hitter before he left the Jays. For some reason JP let him walk as a free agent instead of getting something for him (the Jays were not contending in 2002).
I'm not going to berate JP for not trading him for David Wright, but I will berate JP for not trading him and letting him walk for absolutely nothing.
