Watched it live in a pub in Tottenham. Couldn't believe what I was seeing. Cost United the title that year but proved to be one of Fergie's masterstrokes in man management in setting up that meeting in Paris and convincing him to return not to mention his handling of the shouts to sack him. Reading autobiographies from players since,, ALL are in agreement that he was a huge part not just in the clubs success in the following years but laid the foundation for years later. I would argue that if there is one player that could be singled out for turning the club around it is him.
Whilst his actions in itself were wrong history has shown that he couldn't have kicked a better person.
