The answer to the posted question is, "Who cares?". What's done was done; they had a losing streak and it was part of the rebuilding process. Whatever streak they have now should mentally prepare them for another set of losing streaks. Mathematically, the 4 game winning streak doesn't even equate to how many points they didn't gain as a result of the 16 points lost. Although the Flames gained 8 points from this 4 game winning streak, they also allowed the opposing teams to gain at least 1 point each for any games they were able to tie up before the end of regulation. This is why I think if the Flames really want a good rebuild, they should consider actually going into a longer skid and place themselves better at the entry draft this June. Sure, it'll be exciting for about a week if they make the playoffs. But then they're likely to get knocked out of the first round because they don't have the size depth to carry them that very far.
With the way they're going, the Flames do have a more chances of not making into the playoffs and sitting at #9 or 10th spot. The Flames have seen this position lot's of times before. Instant success usually don't buy you much success long term. I'd rather see them tank right now and pick up a few good prospects during the summer to continue a good rebuild rather than trade off their prospects for rental players just to make the playoffs.
But unfortunately, I don't think Hartley will allow the Flames to tank this season.
