Here's one. Mind you I think getting the best tires for the job is a smart thing to do but in general I've had good success with all season tires.
Another thing I grew up driving rear wheel driven bias plied tires, and all seasons combined with front wheel or all wheel drive cars were a huge improvement. I've had rear wheeled cars with snow tires and the results were so so. Mind you that was years ago and the technology has probably greatly improved. Currently I have some Nokian M&S on a 4x4 SUV and they've been good in what little snow I've used them in. Next set will be some all weather tires though.
