The fact that this question needs to be asked shows how convoluted and, at times, useless the stat is.
IMO, face-off stats would be a lot more useful if they had different parameters:
1) ignore neutral zone face-offs - seriously, who cares?
2) don't award a winner if it turns into a scrum. Many draws are essentially dead heats that neither centre won. Whichever team eventually gets the puck really had nothing to do with the Cs, so why give them a W or a L?
I say only count the draws in either end. And only count the draws that a player clearly won (/lost). I think that would give us a much more useful stat.
