Realistically, you get the kid the hell out of there. I get that he's probably now not thinking straight either after the whole ordeal, but the happy couple announcing the pregnancy on tv and everything? How do you get your kid out of there when she's only a few months pregnant?

And how is that a happy ending? He's trapped in a marriage with a psychopath for the sake of his child, with no idea of what she's going to do.

Finding a way for him to escape her, and her getting getting her comeuppance, would be way more cliche. Leaving the innocent husband trapped and the psycho in control at the end of the movie is much edgier, IMO. How many movies end with the villain getting away with it?
