I miss Capgeek!
As per the CBA (can someone please stop me from further incriminating myself as a nerd? Please?):
Goalies who signed at age 18-20 have 80 games of waiver eligibility within 4-6 years of the first contract. (So if you sign at 18, you have 80 games or until the season you are 24 years old).
Goalies who signed at ages 21+ have 60 games or between 1-4 years of the first contract.
Ortio signed his ELC March 30, 2011 (
http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=557748). As he would be 20 on September 15th in 2011, it makes him 20 for signing purposes. He will have 4 years from his first contract (meaning 2015-16 season, he's waiver eligible) and has 80 games. He's only played 11, so he could play another 69 without needing waivers this year.
So yea, he's good. He will lose his waiver eligibility at the start of the 2015-16 season.
