The Flames are a better team with Backlund in the lineup and there are probably at least a dozen teams that would take him in a heartbeat in the 3-4M range. Looking down the road at Bennett, Monohan, Backlund anchoring the center ice position for this franchise is a very promising prospect. Injuries come and go, it would be very foolish to tarnish a relationship with the guy over some freak injuries early in his career.

You are bang on here. I think he will sign for 4m or so for 3 to 4 years. No way he gets a low ball offer because of his injuries. Like you said, he does it all. I wouldn't be surprised if they signed him to a longer term deal at 5m, 7 years or something to be honest. He is only 25, why not lock him in until he is 32. I wouldn't have an issue with that.
